Overview
The MyLinkNetwork Yahoo Group for Top LinkedIn networkers is a platform for a professional discussion about LinkedIn and online networking. We strive to make the group a positive, effective, and efficient forum for all our members. Therefore our messages are strictly focused on LinkedIn and not to be used for non-LinkedIn discussions.
Please do not send messages that:
- Initiate actual networking like connection requests or LinkedIn group applications. Use LinkedIn and sites like http://MyLinkNetwork.com and http://MyLinkGroups.com for that.
- Cover other groups, companies, products, or job openings that are not directly LinkedIn-related.
Please do send messages that:
- Share new and useful LinkedIn-related news.
- Ask how LinkedIn can be used to promote your products and services or otherwise meet your business goals.
Messages from new members will be moderated. After one or more acceptable posts we will change your status to unmoderated so your posts will immediately show up.
Before you post
MyLinkWiki at http://MyLinkWiki.com is a community resource with hundreds of pages to help you with LinkedIn, such as getting started, building your network, being an active networker, policies, limitations and restrictions, recommendations, etc.
Use MyLinkWiki two ways before you send a message to MyLinkNetwork.
- If you have a question, check http://MyLinkWiki.com for answers. Run a search or visit the AskMyDaddy section.
- If you're writing more than a paragraph to the group for a tip or article, add it to http://MyLinkWiki.com first! Be a MyLinkWiki Contributor, add a page there, and link to it in your group posting.
Take the next step
Discussion groups that allow commercial messages, including contact requests, do a disservice to their members. They say it's ok to use the forum or any group for unsolicited and untargeted messages. That's bad marketing. Especially so when the message is of interest to only a few people
More importantly it's bad networking. We don't allow it. So what do you do?
We invite you to take the next step. Use the group for good networking, not bad. Engage members for suggestions and help in how to better publicize and target your opportunities through LinkedIn. Or, like Jeopardy where you submit your answer in the form of a question, in networking you submit your need in the form of a Professional introduction (see below).
Professional introductions
Networking is about relationships and how you can help the other person, not "What's in it for me." It's about sharing, not selling. We invite your Professional introduction. It's no different from sending an effective LinkedIn Introduction or delivering a one minute pitch at a networking event. Be brief, be interesting, give us a reason to contact you and start that relationship.
A few tips follow. Your introduction should include:
- Who you are. This isn't just what you do business-wise. It's also personal. Share your interests, humor, and passions. People do business with people they like.
- Your networking style. This is a networking group talking about networking. Share your own networking style and preferences. Are you a libertine, an open networker, a strong networker, or is this all new to you.
- How you can help others. Be a giver, not a taker.
- How we can help you. Yes, finally, here's the part where you can pitch what you need, whether you're looking for a job, customers, group members, your 1,000th connection, etc.
Acceptable Messages
- LinkedIn and social networking business news, questions, issues, problems, opinions, suggestions, criticisms, services, etc.
- Professional introductions once every six months.
Unacceptable Messages
- Job openings
- Business or charitable solicitations. Post as part of a Professional introduction.
- Connection solicitations to LinkedIn or other networks. Post as part of a Professional introduction.
- Contact requests. Use LinkedIn and your own connections instead.
- Topics that would not be of general interest or applicable to most members, or that you are sending to everyone you know.
- Any other topics that are not LinkedIn or online networking-related.
- Postings intended for a specific individual and that do not benefit the group
